Project 3 Narrative

A girl sits alone in a lifeless black and white world, feeling empty within she senses that there is more to her world. Sitting in a lounge room alone there is an eerie silence and she reaches over to turn on the television, but to her surprise there is no signal and the picture is static black and white. Frustrated, she arises out of her chair, reaches over and firmly taps the side of the old television.

To her disbelief the television transforms to flashing images of colour. She dazes in shock and awe at the beautiful colours presented in front of her and yearns to escape her boring dull life to this place of colour and happiness.

On the television set she notices a familiar location, in a narrow laneway just a couple of blocks from her place. The television set pans onto a small little shed from which appears to be the source all of the colour. She sees this is her only hope to survive and sets off in search of this mysterious place.

She wanders the streets searching for the location that she had just previously witnessed on the television screen only to find a dull rundown shed. Although slightly disappointed she decides enter the rickety old shed. In the corner she notices a slumped object lurking in the dark. She brushes the figure with her leg. The object begins to quiver and slowly rises to its feet. Terrified yet fascinated the girl remains standing and staring at the creature. It hobbles towards the girl and examining her over with its snout. The creature coughs spits a colourful fluid goo from its snout. Slightly repulsed whilst strangely excited the girl screams, sending the creature into a rage.

A shot pans around the creature from which it is projecting a stream of fluid from its snout. The fluid is squirted up into the sky where it becomes a hurricane of spitting colour. The shot pans from the top of the hurricane following a piece of its decay to the girl who is walking through a street of vibrant colours. The colour has spread and taken over her surroundings like a virus. The world as she knows it has transformed into bursts of colour.

She finally is able to feel fulfilled within.

Journal Article Synopsis

COLOR UNDERAPPREICIATED, published in New York magazine ‘House Beautiful’, examines a series of quotes taken from interviews with renowned New York designers.

It explores the utilization of colour in design and its ability to persuade atmosphere within architecture. Certain colours provoke particular feelings and these can drastically change when combined.

Although the article is focused on the underappreciated colours within design, it demonstrates the power of colour and its role in bringing life to architecture.

Living in a world without colour is a depressing thought and the idea is to capture this within a cinematic visualization to reinforce the importance of colour in our world. For without colour, life would be a dull, boring and depressing.

The visualization is to show the process of introducing colour and bringing life to architecture of a dull black and white world.

Words on SET

On the surface the word ‘set’; composed of 3 letters and 2 consonants is relatively simplistic, but hidden beneath this exterior appearance the complexity of its powerful meaning is an overwhelming concept of chaotic proportions. Although one common denominator can formed from all of its meanings and uses. They all can somehow relate back to some form of process. Whether something is ‘set’ in stone, or referred to as a ‘set’ of objects their meaning is always derived from a process.

‘Set’ in the instance of a television ‘set’ is referring to process in which one views the broadcasting film. Whilst the word ‘set’ in the instance of a tea ‘set’ is referring to the process in which one is able to serve tea. When a DJ performs a ‘DJ set’ the word ‘set’ is referring to the process of performing and if one in the film business is referred to as being ‘on the set’, the word ‘set’ it is referring to the process of shooting a film. If a bowl of jelly is waiting to ‘set’, the word ‘set’ in this instances is referring to the process in which the jelly transitions from a liquefied state into a solid substance. Similarly ‘set’ in regards to a ‘sunset’ is referring to the process where the sun disappears or ‘sets’ below the horizon as a result of the Earth's rotation. Finally the least obvious appearing process is when a group of similar objects are referenced as a ‘set of objects’, the process of grouping these similar objects is expressed as a ‘set’.
